trekk design group

TREKK Design Group, LLC is a women-owned civil engineering firm dedicated to IMPROVING LIVES in the communities we serve. We offer an array of civil engineering services, including transportation, traffic, structural, water and wastewater engineering, wastewater field services, survey, mobile LiDAR and construction inspection. TREKK initially offered civil engineering and lighting design services across the Kansas City area, quickly gaining a reputation for quality client service. Seeing an opportunity to better help the communities they served, Kimberly and Trent expanded the firm’s capabilities to include survey and wastewater services. TREKK also became certified as a Disadvantaged/Women-Owned Small Business, and our growing firm moved from the basement to a room above the Robinett’s garage. Success in the wastewater arena soon led clients to ask Lucas’ team to deliver inspection and assessment solutions for all types of infrastructure including water, stormwater, gas and electric.

Tawn grew up helping her father build things, figuring out how to make them work. She initially thought a career in architecture was her calling, but quickly learned that civil engineering was her true passion. After graduating from Iowa State University, Tawn’s path led her to Kansas City where she met Kimberly and Trent.

Tawn is also a regular volunteer among numerous civic and community groups, especially animal causes. She believes problem solving is more fun with a group, especially when that group includes clients she’s proud to call friends. You can see her natural ability to unite and inspire her team on every project and during teambuilding events. Trent Robinett knew he wanted to be an engineer from a young age.

You can find TREKK’s more than 200 employees in 11 offices, solving problems all over the country. Justin admittedly thrives on the challenges of his projects and fulfilling client needs every day. But he always carves out time for his daughters, jamming on the guitar, hunting, and the occasional over-all Saturday. She embodies our purpose of IMPROVING LIVES, both at TREKK and in her personal life. And it doesn’t hurt that she likes to work hard and have fun doing while doing it. Being an engineer and entrepreneur align perfectly with who Kimberly Robinett is.

At TREKK, we know that our team members are the foundation of our success. We take pride that TREKK has grown from a small organization to a civil engineering firm with more than 200 employees and counting. TREKK’s purpose of IMPROVING LIVES applies not only to our clients, but also to our employees and their families as well. We emphasize the importance of creating a work-life balance and putting our families first. TREKK offers paid health insurance and generous vacation and sick time to our full-time employees. In addition to traditional benefits, we have a health and wellness committee that is dedicated to promoting the wellness of our staff.

After six years in the engineering industry, Kimberly recognized a need for more quality diverse businesses in Kansas City’s engineering community. With a simple plan to deliver quality work, on schedule and under budget, she and Trent founded TREKK in 2002. At TREKK, we improve lives by providing direction to enable community and personal growth.

It’s at UMKC that Kimberly discovered engineering—and met Trent.

Business Details

As a child, he’d watch his grandfather move dirt as a heavy equipment operator in highway construction. When Justin was 16, he started his first job as a concrete laborer and spent his summers on job sites. It was there that he discovered a passion for solving problems. So he took his aptitude for math and science, passion for construction, and a partially completed physics degree and decided to become a civil engineer. But for Brock, it isn’t as much about the broken play as is it about the cohesive framework you create within the team that allows for quick response and seamless adaption toward the goal.

Our goal is for each employee to build a long and meaningful career at TREKK. Feasibility studies, entitlement, renovations, interior design, consultative services and more. The most inviting homes have an unforgettable character and offer us moments of delight and surprise, just like the people we love spending time with. By offering a full complement of civil engineering services, TREKK delivers commonsense solutions that look at the big picture, not just one piece of the puzzle. Trent leveraged a college golf scholarship to earn his degree in civil engineering from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. After working separately for six years, Kimberly suggested they start their own civil engineering firm in 2002. The 2019 Mr. K Award Winner is known as a leader in clean water and safe roads.

We have been designing solutions for clean water and safe roads since 2002. When he’s not improving sewer infrastructure, Brock is giving back to the community through outreach to aspiring engineers. And if that’s not enough, Brock is also an entrepreneur, operating a tubing, kayaking and camping business all summer long.

Through the years, his team has innovated and developed industry changing inspection tools, data management systems, and analytical processes to grade and prioritize infrastructure. TREKK doesn’t just talk about IMPROVING LIVES, we make it happen for our communities and our employees. We give back to our communities, and we recognize the all-important balance between work and life. TREKK values initiative and creativity to finding the best solutions for our clients’ challenges. Our relaxed, flexible environment brings smart people together to make a difference in the world around us. We encourage our team members to live out their purpose by sharing their time and talent in organizations that align with their personal passions. Many of these personal service opportunities have turned into company-wide volunteerism and fundraising initiatives, as well as activities that team members participate in together outside of work. Flexible work schedules and a dedication to a work-life balance allow our employees to spend time on their passions outside of work and make putting our families first a priority.

Ever the quiet leader, Kimberly has a special ability to bring out the best in everyone. Her relentless work ethic inspires those around her to make a difference in TREKK’s clients’ lives and communities.
